Brown mustard
Family: Brassicaceae

Latin name: Brassica juncea

Family: Brassicaceae

Agronomic characteristics

Brown mustard has a development equivalent to that of white mustard. With higher levels of certain glucosinolates than other crucifers, brown mustard could have stronger allelopathic effects on certain fungi (foot rot in wheat, black rhizoctonia, etc.). However, these effects have proved to be very random under practical field conditions and are effective by biofumigation. Varieties are distinguished by their early flowering, although they are all fairly comparable to early white mustards.
