Rapeseed BIO

For more than 50 years, Lidea has been investing in research to maximise the genetic potential of winter rapeseed. The goal is to secure a high yield for farmers and the best oil quality for the industry.

LIDEA has been breeding winter oilseed rape for over 30 years. Our main objective: to improve performance by increasing yield potential and stability, through good behaviour of crop varieties throughout the life cycle.

How do we select new varieties?

To meet farmers’ needs, we collect and select genetic material based on the following criteria:

Main criteria:

  • High and stable yield: to ensure crop performance
  • High quality: for competitive and efficient production
  • Phoma tolerance: this is crucial since phoma resistance can be achieved only through a varietal choice
  • Stem elongation: important to ensure cold tolerance
  • Pod shattering resistance: a critical factor for mechanised harvesting

Additional criteria to adapt to different conditions:

  • Earliness: to protect plants against environmental influences.
  • Disease resistance: tolerance to diseases such as Verticillium,
Cylindrosporium, etc. whose presence depends on location and
  • Clubroot resistance: to address cabbage hernia.
