SORGHUM GOOD PLANTING
OBJECTIVE: OBTAIN GOOD quality emergence
- Sowing depth: Between 2 and 4 cm is key to quick emergence, control the density and obtain a better cover to reduce weed pressure
- Insure the population, the main yield component
- Planting date (depending on 3 main factors): Soil temperature (>= +12°C), desired flowering depends on climate area and harvest date
- Density of planting (depending on several factors):
o Earliness of the planting: see table of recommendations
o Water reserve of the soil: in dry conditions, planting with higher density may increase competition between plants and lead to macrophomina and rapid exhaustion of soil’s water reserve
o Losses during emergence.
