RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

At Lidea, Research and Development (R&D) is at the heart of our mission to create innovative, high-performance seed varieties that meet the diverse needs of modern agriculture. Our teams work tirelessly to deliver cutting-edge genetic advancements and develop tailored seed solutions for a wide range of markets — from animal feed and human nutrition, to industrial applications and renewable energy.

A Global R&D Network with Local Impact for farmers

Our R&D efforts are supported by a strong international presence, with 18 research stations strategically located across Europe and South America.

This extensive field network enables us to test our seed innovations under real growing conditions across thousands of experimental micro-plots. These trials reflect a wide range of soil types, climate conditions, and agronomic challenges, ensuring that every new variety is robust, reliable, and relevant to local needs.

Key Areas of Research Focus

Lidea’s R&D programmes target continuous improvements in:

  • Crop yield potential
  • Adaptability to diverse soil and climate conditions
  • Tolerance and resistance to pests and diseases
  • Nutritional quality improvements (e.g. protein content, oil levels, digestibility) to meet the needs of farmers and markets
  • Development of digital decision-support tools to enhance crop management for research

These research priorities are guided by close collaboration with farmers and industry stakeholders to ensure practical, measurable impact in the field.

Infrastructure

Our R&D excellence is powered by specific facilities, including:

  • A biomolecular laboratory in Mondonville, France for advanced genetic analysis and trait development
  • A counter-season multiplication site in Chile, accelerating the development and testing of new seed varieties.

Innovation Through Collaboration

Lidea actively collaborates with both public and private institutions to strengthen and accelerate our research. Notable partnerships include:

  • Innolea – for sunflower and oilseed crop
  • GIE Grass – a collaborative initiative for forage crop research

These partnerships help us push the boundaries of seed technology and bring new solutions to market faster.
