NITRO BOOST

Optimising maize nitrogen nutrition and securing your yields.

THE NITROGEN CHALLENGE: WHY CHOOSE NITRO BOOST?

Today, European farmers are facing unprecedented economic and regulatory pressures. The highly volatile costs of nitrogen, combined with increasingly strict application limits—such as the mandatory 20% nitrogen reduction in Nitrate Vulnerable Zones—require new and effective strategies.

On top of this, agronomic risks like nitrogen losses through leaching or volatilisation directly impact final yields. To meet the demand for innovations that secure yields while reducing nitrogen doses and improving crop profitability, Lidea has developed Nitro Boost.

WHAT IS THE NITRO BOOST SOLUTION BY LIDEA?

Nitro Boost seed coating root development on maize

As a new seed treatment and a proud Lidea Boost innovation, Nitro Boost acts on three core pillars: biofertilisation, biostimulation, and soil biological health.

Our technology creates a living "mini-factory" directly around the seed. This seed coating uses a powerful consortium of natural bacteria (Bacillus velezensis) and enzymatic proteins to optimise the plant’s nitrogen nutrition right from sowing through to flowering.

MODES OF ACTION: HOW DOES NITRO BOOST WORK?

1. Dual-Action Biofertilisation

Nitro Boost naturally enriches the soil and improves the plant's nitrogen uptake:

  • Atmospheric nitrogen fixation: Nitrogen-fixing bacteria capture nitrogen from the air and transform it into available ammonia and nitrates.
  • Direct supply: This biological process provides an extra 20 to 40 nitrogen units per hectare directly to the root system.

2. Powerful Biostimulation Effects

Nitro Boost delivers both direct and indirect benefits for optimal physiological plant development:

  • Enhanced root development: The natural synthesis of phytohormones (such as auxins) by the bacteria increases secondary root development fourfold, drastically improving soil exploration and nutrient anchorage.
  • Strong early vegetative vigour: A powerful "starter" effect is activated by cellulase enzymes, resulting in a more vigorous crop emergence with +23% dry matter at the 5-leaf stage and optimal canopy coverage (+5% leaf area from the 3-leaf stage).

  • Soil biological health: The treatment actively stimulates soil biological activity and increases biodiversity through secondary metabolite production. It also exercises an antagonistic function by bioamplifying beneficial bacteria at the expense of pathogenic or opportunistic flora.

PROVEN EFFICACY AND SECURE YIELDS

Years of agronomic research demonstrate Nitro Boost's effectiveness at every stage of crop development:

  • Under reduced fertilisation: With an average reduction of 20 to 30 nitrogen units, crops still achieve a yield gain of +3.5 q/ha.
  • Under normal fertilisation: Yield increases by +2.5 q/ha, proving the solution optimises performance even in optimal conditions.
  • Under difficult conditions: Nitro Boost shows exceptional performance under water stress, delivering a gain of +4.1 q/ha.
  • Optimised plant nutrition: "N-Tester" measurements reveal that plants are visibly better nourished, showing a significantly higher chlorophyll rate compared to untreated controls.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS FOR THE FARMER?

Choosing the Nitro Boost seed treatment means choosing profitability and flexibility. Discover the direct field benefits:

  • Yield security: Highly effective for securing crop yields, particularly in light, well-drained soils.
  • Immediate action: The beginning of the plant cycle is secured thanks to immediate root colonisation by bacteria that quickly convert nitrates for young plants.
  • Immediate savings on fertiliser bills:
    • For intensive crops (>150 N units): Reduction of up to 40 units of nitrogen.
    • For intermediate crops (100-150 N units): Reduction of up to 30 units of nitrogen.
    • For extensive crops (<100 N units): Reduction of up to 20 units of nitrogen.

How does Nitro Boost perform when weather conditions reach their absolute limit?

In this third field trial episode, we head to Bérenx in South-West France to harvest a maize trial plot following an exceptionally hot and dry summer marked by recurring heatwaves.

Watch Field Technical Advisor Christophe Dufourcq and local farmer Matthieu analyse real-world results at harvest. Learn how Nitro Boost, Lidea’s innovative biostimulant and biofertiliser seed coating, strengthens root development, improves nutrient and water uptake, and helps safeguard crop yields even under severe abiotic stress and reduced nitrogen application.
