Let's see how the market situation has evolved since the last two weeks.
Rapeseed is by far the most bullish oilseed. Production is constantly deteriorating, the balance sheets are particularly tight and there is still no sign of a rationing in demand. With regard to soya and sunflower, traders are waiting to verify yields in the USA and the Black Sea.
The weather has not yet had its last word – La Niña is strengthening, and drought prevails in Canada and Russia.
Traders are now doing their sums in an attempt to estimate the scale of the northern hemisphere's harvest precisely. Storers have a key role to play in terms of grain processing as quality is generally mixed, particularly in Europe. One thing is certain: the proportion of feed grain will be higher this year when compared to last year, and could lead to greater exports. Against this backdrop, however, the balance sheet does not seem relaxed this year, and only maize could soothe prices; then again, the US harvest is still uncertain...
